"Besides having the above stirring "effect" on the bottom end, their introduction also contributed to MUCH more lifelike localization, sizing, and refined layering of instrument placement throughout the entire soundstage. They have further had the effect of "enhancing" the silence from which all sounds sitting on the Monaco now emanate… DAMN my records are quite now!
Their addition seems to allow a deeper, clearer, more intimate view back INTO the performance, liberating considerably more of the musical message. Hell, they even contribute to a slight "extension" of the uppermost frequencies. Once again, I sent my check with a HUGE thank you.
If I were to grant numerical values to the improvements these "upgrades" to the remarkable stock Grand Prix Audio Monaco Modular Isolation system contribute, then I would say that the Formula Shelf would effect a 12-15% enhancement to any components that rest on it. The Apex Footers afford something like 25 or 30% improvement to anything resting on any shelf of the Grand Prix Audio Monaco Modular Isolation system.
The Grand Prix Audio Apex Footer is an absolute NO-BRAINER and may be the single most effective isolation device I've yet had the good fortune to discover."

"My first impression was of neutrality the like of which I have rarely encountered from a turntable, and attimes I had to remind my self that I was actually listening to a record. The sheer cleanliness to the signal does little to hide any faults, and in fact tends to highlight the ability of partnering equipment, how it is set up and the quality of the pressing to an almost frightening degree.
Living with the Monaco for the last couple of months has proven to be both an interesting and enlightening experience, but also mildly disturbing, giving me cause to re-evaluate and move forward with my record collection. It is like almost all the traditional negatives with vinyl replay have been removed."

SEPTEMBER 2008: Fidelity # 34/2008 Review: EMM Labs CDSA SE CD-/SACD Player / EMM Labs CDSD CD/SACD Disc Drive/DCC2 DAC/Preamplifier:
Fidelity has went through with an extensive evaluation of the latest versions of the integrated EMM Labs CDSA SE CD/SACD Player and the EMM Labs CDSD/DCC2 digital playback combination and preamplifier. Here are a few exerpts from the reviews based upon the editor of Fidelity, Mr. Knut Vadseth, and his crew of experienced audio journalists' encounter with the latest editions of the groundbreaking EMM Labs digital playback systems:
Introduction:
"The editor has also got hold of the latest version of the outstanding EMM Labs CD/SACD Player in the two box version and the single box version, which is more or less the same CD/SACD player with a stereo dac built into the unit at a relatively moderate price below 100K.
This is the absolute world reference, which all international audiomagazines seem to agree upon."
The CDSD/DCC2:
"Upsampling standard 16 bit to DSD is generally assumed to be an important reason why regular CDs sound very close to SACD. It has been a long time since the editor's jaws dropped so far down onto his stummach as when we - just in case - decided to hook up the Meitner rig with the best cables from our group review (i.e. Bertram ProXima). The other members of the review panel were equally shocked.
The parameters from out last grande experience, the one with the Esoteric flagship, were not exactly the same. If the result this time was not completely the same, it was equally good, to say the least... ALL music sounds tremendously better and a lot more engaging, which is a fantastic result of such an enhancement in sound quality. It is so much fun to play the same old recordings over and over again. And over again... If we forget about the emotions for a second and just focus on what we perceive as realistic sound reproduction, what we all expect that "live" acoustic music sounds like, there was even more to gain with the CDSD/DCC2!
The CDSA SE:
"The 2 box version disappeared in the same instant we got the "budget version". There is a possibility that the more expensive version is a slight margin better on dynamic contrast and substance in the soundstage, but we really cannot say for sure... until further, this "cheap" EMM Labs CD Player will remain our new reference.
CD/SACD has never been better! Meitner's rigs, both versions, presented a soundtage in the living-room that sets a new standard! So huge, so detailed, so relaxed, so dramatic, so clean, so raw, so technically impressive, so organic and so natural. So MUSICALLY ENJOYABLE!"

Bertram silver interconnects and loudspeaker cables offered a transformation of the soundstage that most people would not believe was possible without replacing one or several of the other components in the audio system; the mid range and high freqency sections are presented in a truly realistic and natural manner, which is also the case with the upper bass.

"Don't get me wrong, I heard some very good two-channel sound at CEDIA—Thiel and Wisdom Audio leap to mind—but arriving at the Edge Electronics/PBN Montana room at T.H.E. Show was a breath of fresh air.
...it created not merely a new sonic landscape, but an entire sonic world. The bass was extremely extended and the soundstage was three-dimensional and immersive. loved the recording and the system's performance myself.
Nils Lofgren's Acoustic Live was also stunning-sounding—and surprisingly intimate, given the size of the XPSes. The system was obviously well sorted out."

Review of the all-new MONTANA Mini Monitor in Fidelity
Fidelity audio magazine (Issue # 26/2007) has published a review of the MONTANA Mini Monitor.
The review includes extensive measurements performed by SEAS of Norway, the manufacturer of
the custom spec drivers utilized in the all-new Mini Monitor. Here is how Fidelity sums it all
up:
"Conclusion
It was very interesting to make a new approach to reviewing a loudspeaker, including extensive
measurements. I am pleased to experience that what you measure is what you hear. You can easily
get mislead by measurements, "hearing" what you have allready measured. That is why I listened
to the loudspeaker before the measurements were made. The Montana Mini Monitor is a successful
monitor loudspeaker which will give you a hint of what the larger Montana loudspeakers sound like.
Do not expect a lot of bass; after all we are talking about a 5" driver. Nevertheless, the
Mini Monitor will present the bass region with definition and tightness. The loudspeaker throws
an impressingly open soundstage, it sounds true to the music with the right level of "macho"
dynamics. If you like the sound of the large Montana loudspeaker models, but do not have the
matching budget and room size, then the "tiny" Mini Monitor might be the right choice for you.
The distribution concept also ensures that you can purchase the loudspeaker cheaper than through
a traditional import and distribution concept. In the USA the Mini Monitor retails at $ 2150.

THE ALL-NEW MONTANA MASTER REFERENCE - PREPARE FOR IMPACT
PBN Audio introduces the loudspeaker model that will become the very flagship in the MONTANA line-up at CES 2007, T.H.E. Show, i Las Vegas, January 7 - 12. Hence the name, the MONTANA Master Reference.
PBN Audio will demonstrate the MONTANA Master Reference at St. Tropez, Suite 1903.
The MONTANA Master Reference stands 2,13 meters tall and weighs a formidable 500 kilos a pair. Each cabinet utilizes two ea. 18” McCauley woofers, two ea. 10” mid-bass drivers, two ea. 5,25” mid-range drivers and a highly efficient soft dome wide dispersion tweeter. Except from the two ea. 18" McCauley woofers per cabinet, all drivers are custom made or modified by SEAS of Norway for PBN Audio only. The gigantic ceiled 500 litre cabinet and the custom high-performance drivers from SEAS and McCauley hints about truly exceptional dynamic capabilities and refinement.
The active section includes specially designed PBN OLYMPIA power amplifiers, as well as a PBN OLYMPIA Bass Extension Equalizer. This system pulls extra current when required during extreme bass-heavy passages, which ensures the highest attainable bass definition, control, extension and sonic balance.
The MONTANA Master Reference has a flat frequency response from 15 Hz - 30.000 Hz. Despite of the MONTANA Master Reference's ceiled cabinet, the efficiency is 94 dB (2,83 V / 1 m).
PBN Audio will display all available MONTANA Loudspeakers at the CES 2007, T.H.E. Show. Enhanced versions of the PBN OLYMPIA preamplifiers and power amplifiers will also be presented, including the new PBN OLYMPIA LX preamplifier and a new PBN OLYMPIA PX phono amplifier. The unique fully integrated 75 ohms signal transmission system will prove its vast superiority to traditional XLR and RCA systems, which is also standard only for the sake of compatibility with other manufacturer's preamplifiers and power amplifiers.
